Term 4 2020

Kia ora koutou parents and whānau,
Welcome back to school. Term four is traditionally short and busy so I felt it appropriate to send out an update to ensure families are aware of the school-wide events happening over the coming months.

Board midterm election - We have two parent/community vacancies on the Hurunui College Board. Nominations are now open and need to be submitted to the school office by midday on Tuesday the 27th of October. Nomination forms can be obtained from the school office or downloaded via our Facebook page or the Skool Loop app. Following the close of nominations voting papers will be distributed to parents. Voting closes on Friday the 27th of November 2020.

Tuesday 20th October - Tikanga Day - The Tikanga day is aimed to bring us all together around a common purpose and develop the idea of a reciprocal learning experience and Tikanga Māori. This will be a memorable experience for students and a positive move for the school community. There will be shared kai/lunch where all whānau are welcome. If you can assist with donating food please contact the school or email - ct@hurunuicollege.school.nz. Any amounts will be gratefully appreciated. Whānau are invited to come into school on the day and to be an active participant in activities and the sharing of kai will be an opportunity for us all to come together.

Wednesday 28th October - Athletics Sports - Full school athletics sports will be based in the Hawarden Domain. The first events start at 9.30 am. A full programme will be available via the school calendar.

Tuesday 10th November - Sports Prizegiving - Our sports prizegiving will commence at 2.10 pm. The whole school will be present and parents and whānau are very welcome to attend. Please arrive and be seated by 2 pm. The majority of the sports prizes are issued at this ceremony. The major sports awards will be presented at the end of the year prizegiving.

Thursday 12th November - NCEA Exams - NCEA Exams begin on Monday the 16th of November. Thursday the 12th will be the last compulsory day for our Y11-13 students. However, teachers will still be available during their normal timetabled time to support students with preparation for exams and there will be the expectation that some students continue to attend to complete internal assessments. Students are expected to be in uniform for exams and when attending school.

Thursday 19th November - Teacher Only Day - School is closed for all students. This is the first in a series of teachers only days over the next three years that have been mandated by the Ministry of Education. Secondary teachers will be involved in training around the implementation of the NCEA change package, while primary teachers will be involved in school-based professional development.

Thursday 10th December - School Prizegiving - At this stage, our full school end of year prizegiving is scheduled for the last day of the school year. The prizegiving will commence at 10 am and we ask that all guests are seated by 9.50 am. The buses will run at 12.30 pm following the completion of prizegiving. However, there is a chance that we may need to reschedule prizegiving. If this is the case we will reschedule for Wednesday the 9th of December. This is due to the possibility of senior students being included in the young enterprise scheme national awards.

Start of the school year 2021
    - Wednesday 3rd February - Y11-13 Students
    - Thursday 4th February - Y1-10 Students
    - Friday 5th February - All students

It is hard to believe we are already in term 4 and the end of the school year is only around the corner. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the school directly.
