Uniform


The school uniform and dress code is determined by the Board of Trustees. It is a condition of enrolment that it be accepted that the wearing of school uniform is compulsory for all students from Year 0-13. The uniform is to be worn correctly to and from school as well as at school and at other occasions. We welcome the co-operation of all parents in ensuring that the uniform is worn correctly with the strict application of the school’s dress code relating to jewellery, cosmetics, hair and personal appearance.

In General
Students are expected to:
  • Tuck shirts in (except when on the field involved in physical activity)
  • Wear uniform socks pulled up
  • Keep their uniform/clothing clean and in good repair
  • Clean their shoes and fully name each clothing article.
 
Uniform Supplies
Only available from the school: Hurunui College polar fleece, tie, Year 7-13 PE top, cap, boy’s socks, Junior school long sleeve/short sleeve red collared top, material for girl’s winter and summer uniform.
Outlets for other items: The Warehouse, Ballantynes, Blackwells (Kaiapoi), Lithgows and Mainland Uniforms carry generic items.

Uniform for All Students Years 0-6
This is the uniform for Year 0-6 pupils.
Sweatshirt Plain navy blue, or woollen navy jersey or polar fleece/ vest
Trackpants  Plain navy blue rugby knit (without leg zips and or labels) or Leggings -  plain navy blue
Rugby Knit Shirt Navy shirt with red collar, long or short sleeved (purchased at school office)
Skivvy  Red/Navy/White (under rugby shirt)
Shorts/ Bike Pants  Plain navy blue
Other Options - Pinafore or skirt or (summer only) dress
  • Summer  - Blue and white school check material
  • Winter  -  School McPherson tartan
Footwear Suitable casual school footwear or sandals
Socks may be white, red or blue
Sunhats  Navy, wide-brimmed or bucket style, HC monogrammed cap. Hats are compulsory for Year 0-8 during Term 1 and Term 4.
Boys and Girls Sports Uniforms  Navy knit shorts and polo shirt

Uniform for All Students Years 7-13
Jersey Blue V neck as worn by Aranui High; and/or Hurunui College monogrammed polar fleece vest or jacket
Tights and socks  These are not to be worn together
Jacket  The school polar fleece or a plain navy blue jacket can be worn to and from school in cold or wet weather.
Shoes Regulation school style brown or black leather shoes (heels no higher than 4cm/40mm) or sandals (worn without socks).
Physical Education Uniform Year 7-13 compulsory.  Approved monogrammed polo shirt available from the school.  To be worn with navy shorts (no logos), white sport socks, non-marking sports shoes.
T Shirts A plain white T shirt or poly-propylene top may be worn under the uniform, as long as it (or indeed any underwear) is not visible.
Sun Hats (Summer) The wearing of sunhats (plain navy) outside during terms 1 and 4 is strongly advised.  School cap, school bucket hat or plain navy cap allowed.
Scarves and Hats (Winter) To be plain navy.  Worn to and from school only.
 
Boys - Summer
Years 7-10
  • College regulation grey walk shorts (not boxer)
  • Grey open neck shirt
  • Grey socks with red and blue bands on top
Years 11-13
  • White cotton shirt (long or short-sleeved). No coloured T-shirts are to be worn under white shirts.
  • Blue walk shorts
  • Grey walk socks
 
Boys - Winter
Years 7-10
  • College regulation grey woollen shorts or trousers 
  • Grey long-sleeved shirt
  • Grey socks with red and blue bands at top
Years 11-13
  • Long grey trousers or blue walk shorts
  • White long-sleeved shirt (buttoned to the neck)
  • Hurunui College tie (optional)
  • Pale grey walk socks
 
Girls - Summer
Years 7-10
  • Blue and white check dress (pattern from school)
  • Plain white ankle socks
Years 11-13
  • Blue and white check skirt (pattern from school)
  • White short-sleeved, open neck blouse
  • Plain white ankle socks
 
Girls - Winter
Years 7-10
  • McPherson tartan skirt (pattern from school)
  • Blue blouse (as worn by Kaiapoi High School)
  • Plain white skivvy may be worn under blouse
  • Navy tights or white ankle socks
Years 11-13
  • McPherson tartan skirt
  • White long-sleeved blouse (with neckband suitable for a tie)
  • Hurunui College tie (optional)
  • Navy tights or white ankle socks

Personal Grooming
Hair
  • All students must keep their hair clean and tidily groomed.  Hair should not be dyed any unnatural colour and no cosmetic hair permitted. Boys must be clean shaven.
  • Hair ties or bands – plain navy or red.
Makeup
  • Makeup and nail polish are not permitted at any level.
Jewellery
  • Plain gold or silver studs may be worn in the ears, and students may choose to wear either a bracelet or necklace, as long as it is not visible, and can be removed in activities where it could be a safety hazard. No rings to be worn.  A watch may be worn.
